Bio

Originally from the Jersey Shore, Ron Meyers earned his B.A. at Columbia University (1992) and his law degree from Harvard University (1999). He was admitted to practice in New York in 2000 and is a member of the New York City and New York State Bar Associations, including the state bar’s section on Trusts & Estates.

Ron has focused his practice on estate planning and estate settlement for several years, though he began his career working on major commercial real estate transactions, and continues to provide services on residential purchases and sales, as well as commercial leases and business agreements.

Charitable and Philanthropic Planning

Ron is a member of the Philanthropic Planning Group of Greater New York, an organization of professionals in the field of sophisticated gift planning for non-profit groups of all kinds. He has spoken on charitable gift planning for several organizations, including the American Museum of Natural History and WNET/Channel 13. He has also advised a number of small non-profits on the establishment of planned-gift programs.

International Planning

Ron has active professional contacts in Britain, Israel and elsewhere, and has helped clients plan for their overseas assets and beneficiaries. In 2009, he participated in a seminar for estate and financial professionals in Israel, and is currently studying for admission to the bar in the UK.

LGBT Concerns

Ron is a leading practitioner in the area of estate planning for gay and lesbian clients, their partners, spouses and families. As a member of the LGBT Rights Committee of the New York City Bar Association, he organized a day-long conference in 2009 on the subject of Estate Planning for Same-Sex Couples. He has strong relationships with other professionals focusing on the special challenges facing the LGBT population, and has spoken on this topic in many venues, including for groups at several Fortune 500 companies. He was a major source for the New York Times’s October, 2009 front-page feature, “The Higher Lifetime Costs of Being a Gay Couple”. Most recently, he authored an advisory comment on proposed federal regulations regarding hospital visitation for domestic partners that was endorsed by, and submitted to the Department of Health and Human Services on behalf of, the New York City Bar Association and its committees on Health Law and LGBT Rights.
